Beginning with a thorough examination of the cabinets, looking for structural issues, existing paint condition, clear coats, and material type, etc. This step determines the necessary repairs and the best approach for refinishing, priming and painting.

Once both parties have an understanding with the initial diagnosis, we move forward with the color consultation. We brainstorm colors for as long as we have to, in order to choose a color that is right for you and a color that is right for your overall kitchen aesthetics.

We remove all hardware, label and store them safely. This ensures that they are not damaged, lost or painted over during the refinishing process. If new hardware is purchased and available on completion day, we will install the new hardware free of charge.

Back at the shop, the degreasing stage begins. Applying a degreasing cleaner to all surfaces is imperative to remove oil, grease, and residues. This step is critical for ensuring that the bond between primer and substrate adhere properly. Woodwork receives a pressure washing and will dry over night.

Depending on the type of surface, either power sanding or hand sanding will be chosen. This is an important decision to ensure sanding marks do not show through layers of primer and paint. Sanding creates the abrasive surface needed for strength and durability between layers of primer and woodwork.

Identify, diagnose and fill any nicks, holes, or dents with wood filler or bondo. Once dry, the areas are sanded to ensure they are flush with the surrounding surface, creating a smooth, even base for the primer stage.

We use an alcohol based primer. Its superior adhesion, durability and stain is unmatched, it will bond to glass and plastics. There is no need for toxic oil base these days.

For light colored paints, we use Emerald Urethane Enamel from Sherwin Williams. As this paint is an enamel, it cures to a rock solid finish with a small amount of malleability throughout its interior. We have tested this, and found that it is a more superior choice than the brittle nature of other cabinet paints that can chip more easily over time.

For dark colored paints, we use Command from Benjamin Moore. This is a more superior deep base paint than any deep base from Sherwin Williams. Dark colors can be more expensive as they consist of a higher level of pigment and can be more finicky to deal with during spray application.

Sanding is again, imperative for abrasive adhesion between layers of primer and paint while dusting all particulates for a smooth finish. With a SEPARATE Graco sprayer, apply 1 thin coat, dry for 8 hours, scuff sand, dust particulates and apply the final coat. Panels dry for a minimum 48 hours before transportation.

As the doors and drawers are drying in the shop, we come in on-site to complete the built-in work. Depending on the size of the kitchen, this process could take a maximum of 2 days.

The refinishing, prime and paint procedure is the same as dealing with panels in the shop. of course, we employ the use of drop sheets, masking and other relevant materials to ensure no paint drips or overspray occurs. Clients do NOT need to remove anything from their cabinets and can continue to use their kitchens as they normally would. We have a system, we are professionals.

At end day, we practice standard clean-up procedures and if available, the client joins us for a walkthrough. We also cover over night procedures to ensure the quality dries as is. Top coat dries to the touch within a few hours. Always be careful of course, as the paints malleable interior is still evaporating its water content.

Transportation, installation of panels and completion of project. This is pretty straight forward. Installing drawers, then doors and adjusting spacing accordingly. Reinstalling original hardware or newly purchased hardware (we always recommend Amazon for new hardware - very cost effective).

We make sure your kitchen cabinets function as they should and you will receive all left over touch-up paint. Finally, we add high quality rubber bumpers that do not degrade over time on each corner of door and drawer throughout your kitchen.

Light colored top coats will take a run time of 2 weeks to fully cure. Darker colors will take 3-4 weeks to fully cure depending paint base and amount of pigment. After, this cure time, is when you can wash your newly painted cabinets. It is recommended to use warm water, a few drops of dish soap and a micro fiber cloth.
